Overview

Joshua Berman is a trial and investigations partner at the global law firm Clifford Chance.  For the past 20 years, at Clifford Chance and other firms, Josh has represented and provided counsel to corporate clients, Boards of Directors, and individuals in government, Congressional and internal investigations, civil litigation, and compliance.  Josh serves as the chair of his firm's pro bono program.  Prior to joining Clifford Chance, Josh had extensive U.S. government experience. Notably, he served as Deputy General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Obama and as a federal prosecutor under Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush -- as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, the Associate Investigative Counsel on the high profile Webster Commission for the Review of FBI Security Matters in the wake of Robert Hanssen’s espionage, and as senior Trial Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Public Integrity Section.

Josh has a long-standing commitment to public service, volunteer efforts, and nonprofit leadership, having served in leadership positions on several boards outside of the Cornell community. For Cornell, Josh serves on the Cornell Hillel Board, is a current member of the Cornell University Council, and is a long-standing member and most recent chair of the Arts and Sciences Career Connections Committee, Government and Policy group. Josh and his wife Amy (ILR '94) live in the Washington, D.C. area with their two children Seth '26, and Eli.
